Long Weekend Ideas: Why Maine is Always a Good Idea

Bar Harbor, Maine

Long weekends are one of my favorite things to do during the summer. There is something extremely refreshing about venturing out for just the weekend - long enough to explore, but short enough to keep you wanting more. Maine is a great place to explore. It offers a picturesque coastline, accessibility to outdoor adventures, cozy B&B's, a rich history, and a relaxed vibe. The following are some of the best small towns and cities for a long weekend in Maine.

Bar Harbor

Bar Harbor rests on Mount Dessert Island. It is home to the Acadia National Park, a magnificent coastline, delicious restaurants, and abundant outdoor activities. There is something about Bar Harbor that keeps people coming back year after year. If you make the trip up you won't be disappointed.

Portland

A traditional coastal city with a historic old port covered in must-eat restaurants and unique shops and boutiques. Small Casco Bay Islands are easily accessible by ferry, and boat tours are simple enough to book. The vibrant nightlife and entertainment keeps you busy until late at night and makes Portland worth visiting.

Camden

A charming small town up the coast of Maine, full of rich history, and sidewalks lined with brick. This quaint coastal town offers fresh New England air and is home to many galleries, small shops, B&B's, and divine restaurants.

Kennebunk / Kennebunk Port

A fun filled destination for the whole family year round. During the summer it might be filled with visitors from neighboring states, but fighting the crowd is well worth it to visit the unique shops, restaurants, and to catch a glimpse of that rocky coastline. This to has something for everyone from fishing charters, beaches, sailing tours, and bike and scooter rentals. In the winter a enthusiastic Christmas celebration ensues.
